Paint correction on a vehicle from the Blue Mountains

Paint correction
Blue Mountains.

Machine polishing that removes swirl marks, sap etching and UV dullness — carried out under proper inspection lighting, twenty minutes from Mount Victoria.

What we see on mountains cars

Sap rings, flat paint, and a lot of fine scratches.

Three things turn up on almost every Blue Mountains car, and all three are correctable.

Sap and bird droppings leave etched rings once they have sat in the sun — the clear coat is physically dished where the acid bit in. Altitude UV flattens colour, particularly on red and black. Underneath both is the usual web of wash marks and swirls, which is what makes a panel look dull even straight after a wash.

Machine polishing levels the clear coat and removes all three, within the limits of what your paint can safely give. We measure depth before starting and tell you honestly what will come out, what will improve, and what is too deep to touch.

This is how correction is actually judged.

A section of the bonnet gets taped off and one side is polished. Same panel, same inspection light, same minute — so what you are looking at is the work, not a different camera angle or a kinder bit of weather.

On the left, the light scatters into a haze because thousands of fine scratches are throwing it in every direction. On the right, the clear coat is level again, so the reflection stays a sharp point. That is the whole job in one photo.

One Stage Correction for a Blue Mountains vehicleStage 01

One Stage Correction

Paint enhancement and gloss improvement

A single machine polishing step that lifts gloss, clarity and depth while removing a meaningful share of lighter swirls and wash marks. The best-value option for a well-kept daily driver, or for paint that is going straight under a coating.

Two Stage Correction for a Blue Mountains vehicleStage 02

Two Stage Correction

Heavier defect removal, then refinement

A cutting stage to remove deeper defects, followed by a refining stage to remove the haze the cut leaves behind. This is where paint stops looking 'clean' and starts looking corrected — sharp reflections, no visible swirling under direct light.

FAQ

Paint correction questions.

Paint correction is the process of machine polishing a vehicle's clear coat to remove defects — swirl marks, wash scratches, oxidisation, haze and light scratches. A small, controlled amount of clear coat is levelled so that the surface reflects light evenly again. It is not a filler or a temporary cover-up; the defects are physically removed.

No, and anyone who promises otherwise isn't being straight with you. If a scratch has gone through the clear coat — you can usually catch it with a fingernail — it can't be polished out safely. We measure paint depth and work within what the clear coat can give. Every vehicle gets an honest assessment of what will be removed, what will be improved, and what will still be there afterwards.

Yes. We run our mobile service the full length of the mountains, from Mount Victoria and Blackheath through Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls down through Springwood to Blaxland. Because we are based in Lithgow we come at the mountains from the western end, which makes us closer to the upper mountains than almost any Sydney-based detailer. Correction and ceramic coating work is usually booked into the Lithgow workshop, which is about twenty minutes from Mount Victoria.

Our three detailing packages start at $150 for a Mini Detail, $300 for a Premium Detail and $550 for an Ultimate Detail, priced by vehicle size — the full guide is on this site. Those are genuine starting prices for a vehicle in reasonable condition. A heavily neglected car, pet hair or a recovery job takes longer, so send a few photos with your enquiry and we'll confirm a firm number, usually the same day. Paint correction and ceramic coating are always quoted after seeing the paint.
